What a health and safety audit covers
An audit is broader than an inspection. An inspection looks at conditions on the day; an audit looks at whether your whole system works, including whether the arrangements written in your policy are the arrangements people follow.
We use a structured checklist covering policy and responsibilities, risk assessment quality, training and competence, equipment and maintenance, fire and emergency arrangements, contractor control, accident reporting and RIDDOR, welfare, and how effectively you review all of it.
- Health and safety policy and named responsibilities, including whether they match reality
- Risk assessment coverage, quality and review dates
- Training records, competence and refresher intervals
- Plant, equipment, PLI and statutory inspection records
- Fire risk assessment, drills, alarms and emergency procedures
- Contractor and visitor control on site
- Accident, incident and near-miss reporting, and RIDDOR compliance
- Welfare, first aid and display screen arrangements
